Some of my questions after watching the film: how has the cult not ran out of members from the sacrifices. They need to sacrifice four people each year from the cult, there was maybe 60 people in that group -I dont understand how they werent more concern about their friends when they disappeared, where would they have gone, its a small place Also I think they missed an opportunity with the orcal. You missed a lot of the meaning in this film, I disagree with almost every criticism you made. As soon as a reviewer calls a piece of art pretentious they lose all credence since they clearly don't know what that word means. People are pretentious, not art.

I was very excited to see this and waited until it was on dvd. I loved Hereditary and thought it was brilliant in portraying demonology and the horrifying grip of supernatural on a family. However, I set my expectations high for this one, hoping if would embrace some sort of supernatural aspect to it, but it didn't. The characters are rather dull and there is somewhat of an unconnected feeling throughout the film. No where is there any real horror, just a plethora of psychedelic nonsense. It aims at depicting disparaging glimpses of pagan Litha and comes off pretentious, the ritualistic, purification, blood sacrifice, rebirth, fertility, blah, blah. I tried my best to not compare the film with Ari Aster's previous, but really the two films can't be more dissimilar. I could see the appeal of Midsomer to strictly those very interested in all things pagan, but other than that I think you will be met with disappointment, especially if you are expecting horror.

I was in a cult for 8 years, and watching Midsommar was one of the most unsettling experiences of my life. It was, in my opinion, so accurate and believable, and that movie does a great job of not only depicting the personal disturbance that often leads people to cults, but also both creates in the characters and in the viewer a sense of disorientation as to what it is that is actually going on until it is basically too late.

For those who don't know, a Blood Eagle was a ritual that the Vikings would preforme on pepole who we're tratior or had done the community wrong. They would take their ribs from the back and spread them out like wings like an Eagle, and all while, the person is not allowed to scream, because that shows that they are week and will not to go the Viking version of heaven. They would continue to tourture you until you died, and left you there on display while animals, like Eagles would eat you and you would rot away 🦅 (It was never preformed, but is a solid tourture method. As mentioned in the movie, it's the Elder Futhark rune system. The R rune is Raidho, which usually stands for travel. a trip would be more appropriate for this movie. The other rune (hour glass looking one) looks like Dagaz, but tilted at 90 degrees. It means day, so very appropriate.
